sustainable urbanization 可持續城鎮化

Supporting sustainable urbanization - In China, the trend toward urbanization has been both remarkable1 and challenging. Remarkable, for the sheer speed at which it has occurred, and challenging for the many problems that are accompanying it: environmental degradation2, inadequacy3 of municipal and social services, and increasing inequality, to name just a few.

支持可持續城鎮化在中國，城鎮化獲得了卓越的收獲，但同時也面臨著嚴峻的挑戰。卓越的收獲是指中國城鎮化的速度非常快，而嚴峻的挑戰指的是城鎮化過程中出現的問題不少，譬如環境惡化、市政服務和社會服務貧乏，與不斷加劇的社會不公平現象等。

上面報道中的sustainable urbanization就是可持續城鎮化，是一種重視長遠進步的城鎮化理念，指不以資源很多消耗和環境緊急污染為代價的穩定發展。Sustainable這個詞的意思就是可持續的，由這個詞組成的其他固定說法還有sustainable growth（可持續增長）和sustainable pattern（可持續進步模式）等。

Asian Development Bank（亞洲開發銀行）和National Development and Reform Commission（國家發改委）近期的一項研究顯示，現在每年有約1500萬農村人口涌入城市和集鎮。照這個趨勢進步，人數超越一千萬的megacity behemoths（超大城市）將來會愈加多，這類城市在將來五到十年內怎么樣進步將會對以下問題的解決產成長遠的影響：land management（土地管理）, 自然資源消耗、交通、能源需要、污染、greenhouse gas emissions（溫室氣體排放）、與urban livability（城市宜居性）等。
